We source timber from our local woodlands and we transform it with intense heat. The process is called Thermal Modification.
During our thermal modification process, we heat our wood to over 200 °C. This alters the cell structure and delivers a very low moisture level. Once modified, the wood can no longer absorb water, which makes it resistant to decay and a lot less likely to move and distort. The heating process also releases natural chemicals that darken the colour of the wood. This gives you a beautiful, consistent finish.

Brimstone will last outside without treatment.
Being stable, durable and lightweight, Brimstone products are ideal for timber cladding. Because thermally modified wood is free from extractives, you can expect Brimstone wood cladding to weather more evenly than non-modified wood. You’ll also get less of the unsightly staining that affects species like cedar and oak.
Need a stable and beautiful-looking wood for joinery? You’re in the right place. Brimstone ash and sycamore are a great choice for external joinery. As our products are hardy and free from extractives, you can be sure they’ll last. In cold climes, humid heat, or even polluted inner city areas, Brimstone stands the test of time.
Decking looks great when you finish the project. But later down the line it can warp and age. Brimstone ash is different. As it’s thermally modified, it gives you improved hardness, stability and durability. It also makes an ideal alternative to tropical hardwoods such as ipe.
